The Imperial was built in 1863 as a city palace for the Prince of Württemberg, converted into a hotel for the World Exposition of 1873, and has since received every visiting head of state and crowned head to come to Vienna — the marble staircase and the state apartments still serve as the hosting address for the Austrian Chancellery. The hotel passed from the Luxury Collection to Anantara in 2023; the Café Imperial remains the alternative to the Sacher.
Book the Royal Suite if the trip warrants it, otherwise a Belle Etage room facing the Ring. Take the Imperial Torte at the café. The Ringstrasse position is the actual asset.
