The Albertina is the Habsburg city palace on the bastion above the Augustinerkirche — the state rooms preserved with the original Empire-period furniture, the graphic-arts collection holding one million prints and sixty-five thousand drawings (Dürer's hare, the Klimt and Schiele studies), and the painting collection that runs from Monet through the Vienna Secession to Picasso. The Albertina Modern extension on Karlsplatz handles the contemporary programme.
Book the morning slot for the state rooms and the permanent collection, take the late lunch at the Do & Co café in the bastion. The Wednesday and Friday evening openings are the alternative.
