Valderrama is the European reference — Robert Trent Jones expanded the original 1974 Sotogrande New into the Valderrama layout in 1985, Seve Ballesteros captained the European side to its 14.5 to 13.5 victory there at the 1997 Ryder Cup (the first held outside the US or UK), and the course has hosted the LIV Golf Andalucía event in June 5–7, 2026 for the fourth consecutive year. The conditioning is the most considered of any course in continental Europe.
Tee-times are tightly held — book three months out through SO/ Sotogrande, Marbella Club or directly with the club. Take the caddie; the course punishes the wrong line off the tee. Lunch at the clubhouse after the round.
