Santa María is the institution of European high-goal polo — founded in 1965, three field areas across the estate, and a tournament calendar that runs from May to October with the international high-goal season in August. The format is the one the rest of the polo world copies but does not quite match: open grounds, the Saturday-night asados in the village by Los Pinos, the terrace at the clubhouse for the lunch on Sunday before the final.
Attend a Bronze Cup match in late July to learn the format, then return for the Gold Cup final at the end of August. The members' club access is best arranged through SO/ Sotogrande or the marina desks.
Book it for the August final.
