Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva

The oldest grand hotel in the city, on the Rhône since 1834, now run by Four Seasons with the lake at the doorstep.

The Bergues opened in 1834 and is the original Geneva grand hotel — the one every other property on the lake was measured against for the first century. Four Seasons took it in 2005, restored the volumes, and kept the room count modest. The lake-side suites on the upper floors are the most coveted in town.

Izumi on the rooftop is one of the few places in Geneva where you can dine in the open air with the Jet d'Eau in full view across the harbour. The address Camille books when an American family wants the full Geneva proposition without the family-house formality of the Beau-Rivage.

Book it for the lake-view suite.
