Maroma is the Belmond hotel on the Riviera Maya — technically not in Tulum (it sits twenty minutes south of Cancún airport on Maroma Beach) but the property that most of my Tulum clients pair with two or three nights at Azulik or Casa Malca for the full week. The recent renovation under Tara Bernerd brought the seventy-two rooms up to current Belmond standard without losing the Mexican-artisan character, and the spa with Guerlain is the most serious wellness facility on the Mayan coast.
For honeymoons that want the polished Belmond service-and-design package alongside the wilder Tulum experience, this is the right combination. Curtis Stone's Woodend on the beach is the best dinner on the property — the open-fire seafood. The sea-turtle conservation programme on the beach is a meaningful part of the stay.
