The cenotes are the most singular natural experience on the Mayan Riviera — the underground rivers that the Maya considered sacred, the cathedral chambers of stalactites, the freshwater so clear you can see thirty feet down. But the public cenotes by mid-morning are crowded enough to ruin the experience; the only sensible way to do them is with a private guide who knows the timing, the lesser-known sites, and the right sequence.
Tulum Underground and Absolute Adventure are the two senior operators — both will pick up from any hotel, run the three-cenote half-day, and have you back in time for the afternoon at the beach. For honeymoons and bridal retreats the Gran Cenote first, Taak Bi Ha for the dramatic cave swim, and Xunan Ha for the more intimate finish is the right sequence.
