Gitano is the festive Tulum room — opened 2013, the disco mirror ball hanging from a tree in the jungle, the mezcal-cocktail programme that put the spirit on Tulum maps, and the Friday Gypsy Disco that has been the late-night Tulum institution for over a decade. The food is modern Mexican done well enough to be the dinner and not just the lead-up to the dancing; the cocktails are the reason most people book.
For EVJF and bachelorette weekends in Tulum this is the obvious Friday-night reservation — the early seating at 7 p.m., dinner through the cocktail hour, dancing in the jungle from 10 p.m. onwards. Book the long banquette for groups of eight to twelve.
