Shell Beach Gustavia

The shell-strewn cove at the edge of Gustavia harbour — the sunset apéritif and the easiest swim in town.

Shell Beach is what the name suggests — a cove of broken white shells rather than sand, on the western edge of Gustavia, with the harbour mouth visible to the right. Shellona, the Greek beach club at the back of the cove, is sister to the Saint-Tropez original and runs the lunch service through the season. The sunset hour, with a glass of rosé and the yachts coming in, is the island ritual.

Five o'clock arrival for the light, dinner reservation elsewhere for nine. The walk back to Gustavia centre is two minutes — useful if you have a table at L'Isoletta or Bagatelle.

Book it for the sunset hour.
