Bar Pitti

The Sixth Avenue Tuscan room — cash only, the daily special board, the booth one of the half-dozen most credible Italian rooms in the city.

Bar Pitti has run the Tuscan format on Sixth Avenue since 1991 — cash only, no reservations for the sidewalk tables, the daily board written in Italian and handed to every table without translation. The format is among the half-dozen most credible Italian rooms in the city and the booth at the back is the most contested seat in the Village.

Arrive at eleven-thirty for the lunch sidewalk, take whatever pasta is on the board that day, the bistecca, the espresso. The address is the right answer for the Italian lunch that should remain Italian and the only Village room that refuses to translate the menu.

The Tuscan that refuses the translation.
